Jackal

Jackal is a classic top-down, run-and-gun style action game developed and released by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1988. Based on the arcade game of the same name (though with significant level design changes), the NES version of Jackal became a beloved console-exclusive experience. The game puts players in control of an elite military jeep, part of the 'Jackal' unit, sent on a perilous solo or two-player co-op mission deep behind enemy lines. The objective is not just to destroy the enemy forces but to rescue captured prisoners of war and escort them to an extraction point. This focus on rescue over pure destruction gave Jackal a unique and memorable identity among the shooters of its era.
