Nintendo
The Kyoto company that started with playing cards and went on to define the modern home console.
Founded in 1889 as a maker of hanafuda playing cards, Nintendo grew into the very definition of video games. It produced the Famicom (NES), Super Nintendo and Game Boy — consoles that rewrote the industry — and created household-name series such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon and Kirby. The Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Kirby titles on this site are all its work.
